A-list stars braved the snow and icy cold conditions last night to attend the annual Bafta award ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House in London.

A chance for the British Film Industry to recognise and award all forms of creative entertainment, this prestigious ceremony is often a good indicator of how the Oscars will play out too.

Big names came to town including George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Sarah-Jessica Parker, Hugh Jackman and Dame Judy Dench. The red carpet was awash with fabulous outfits and style statements, namely Dame Helen Mirren’s pink hair!

The big winner of the night, which was hosted by Stephen Fry, was Ben Affleck’s Argo picking up Best Picture, Best Director and Best Edit. Affleck said that he felt he had been given a second chance after making some questionable decisions in the earlier years of his career, whether he was referring to some of his dodgier films or his public engagement to Jennifer Lopez (Bennifer) was left open to interpretation.

Daniel Day-Lewis picked up the award for Best Actor for his role in Lincoln, the film was nominated for an impressive 10 gongs, but this was the only winning category. A well deserved recognition of achievement for Day-Lewis.

The surprising winner of the night was Best Actress which went to 85 year old Emmanuelle Riva for her role in Amour (which also won the award for Film not in the English Language), she wasn’t at the ceremony to receive her award in person.

Adapted West-end musical, Les Miserables won awards for Best Make-up and Hair, Production Design and a third in Best Sound with Anne Hathaway complementing the line up with her Best Supporting Actress award for the same movie.

Hit James Bond flick, Skyfall won Outstanding British Film in 2013 along with the award for Original Film Music. Pop singer Adele, who famously sung the title track was not at the ceremony as she was at the Grammy’s which was simultaneously taking place in Los Angeles.
