Last night, the O2 Arena in London’s East End rolled out the red carpet and welcomed the biggest names from the British music industry for the 33rd annual BRIT Awards.

Actor James Corden presented the event, which featured energetic performances from Robbie Williams and One Direction. Muse opened the show with a great version of Supremacy, Justin Timberlake simultaneously oozed cool and hot with his new single Mirrors and Mumford & Sons, who continued their Grammy success by picking up Best British Group, gave a rousing rendition of their hit, ‘I Will Wait’.

Other performances came from American popstar Taylor Swift and Brit Ben Howard who won both British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. Emile Sandé closed the show with beautiful versions of her hits ‘Clown’ and ‘Next to Me’ rounding off an amazing year for the double BRIT award winner.

One Direction won the Global Success Award, further highlighting how well they have done in the notoriously tough US Market since being put together on the X Factor.

Coldplay won best live act, Lana Del Ray picked up International Female, The Black Keys scored International Group, Frank Ocean walked away with International Male and Adele won British Single of the Year for Skyfall.

Keep an eye out for Tom Odell this year, he won the coveted Critics Choice award, which Emile Sandé won last year and will no doubt be a great platform for him. Paul Epworth won producer of the year while this year’s Special Recognition award went to War Child.

There was no Outstanding Contribution to British Music this year or International Breakthrough Act and the Best Producer award was not presented on the live show.

James Evans, a first year student at the BRIT talent school got to mingle with the celebrity’s on the red carpet. “It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! The atmosphere was incredible.” Maybe we’ll see James winning an award himself in the next few years.

As the stars left the arena to enjoy the after show parties, James Corden was planning a quick boogie before heading home with his Wife. “I’m filming tomorrow and have a car picking me up at quarter to six in the morning” he told ITV2. After having to controversially cut Adele short last year, there were no such faux pas this year and hopefully he’ll be able to celebrate a job done well very soon.
